G’s Variety Innovation

G’s Varietal Trials Process

Our growers and product teams, work with our seed partners to coordinate trials across our diverse farming base.

The in-country seed representatives provide direct links from the seed breeders through to our growers.

Our teams travel extensively to see seed company trials across Europe to meet with breeders and seed company crop mangers.

Product Innovation Cycle

Existing & New Product Development

Existing product development (EPD) researches and trials established product types in order to find improvements in quality, taste, texture, growing and harvest. New product development (NPD) is driven by customer requirements and breeder research to develop new types of products.

Our growing teams trial over 1,500 varieties every season across all salad crops. The trials process is process managed in order to maintain reliable data to help steer commercial decisions by driving sales through taste and quality enhancements whilst improving growers’ options on yield, resistance and crop suitability.

4 trial breeding phases:

At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic we embraced virtual technology and moved from physical in-field to online meetings, so breeders around the world could continue to track the development of our trials. This change in approach inspired a broader network of contacts within our key seed partners.

See our trails calendar to understand when we have different trials coming ready.
